1837, 17 August: JAMES McVEAGH was admitted to Kilmainham Gaol, Dublin, prisoner # 693, charged with cattle stealing; a sentence of life was recorded on 13 July 1837 at Co Antrim by Judge Burton; 22, 5’1”, brown eyes, brown hair, fair complexion; sent on board the Neptune 26 August 1837 (see Ireland, Prison Registers, 1790-1924, Dublin, Kilmainham 1836-1910).

On arrival in NSW, he was 22yo, single and Catholic (see Irish Convicts to NSW site at http://members.pcug.org.au/). DIED: 27 May 1882, Liverpool Asylum (called McVEIGH). The date and location are contained in a report of convict deaths in New South Wales, dated 19 January 1881, and signed by the Inspector General of Police (see New South Wales, Australia, Convict Records, 1810-1891; Convicts Deaths, Annual Returns of Convicts Who Died, 1867-1891). Note: There is no information about the cause of death or where he was buried.
