NEWGATE PRISON -- Middlesex: The Newgate prison record sheds more light on this offence, describing the charge on which all four men were committed for trial by J Hammill Esq as "Robbery with violence on Ann Coxfield, and stealing from her one shawl, and the sum of 1s 5d, her goods and moneys". The accused men are listed as John Bread, 23, a labourer; Joseph Barnes, 18, a carman; Owen Moran, 23, a shoemaker; and William Jones, 17, a shoemaker. Their trial at the Old Bailey was presided over by Baron Rolfe, but the date is given as 20 December (London, England, Newgate Calendar of Prisoners, 1785-1853; Piece 55: 1848). --00--
