NEWSPAPER REPORTS OF HIS 1856 TRIAL "...David Murray, accused of theft by housebreaking, and previous conviction. He denied the charge, but was found guilty, and being a returned convict, to twenty one years' transportation.—The Court then adjourned." (North British Daily Mail, 3 May, 1856, p3, at britishnewspaperarchive.co.uk) ---- "Ticket of-Leave-Man — David Murray was convicted of having, on the 2lst of January broken into the house in Main street, Bridgeton, occupied by David Conner, labourer, and stolen therefrom several miscellaneous articles, aggravated by a previous conviction. TICKET OF LEAVE 12 June, 1855: Granted a Licence for Parole (Ticket of Leave) #3329 for early release from the Defence prison hulk, moored at Woolwich. Details as below: "Reference: PCOM 3/32/3329 Description: Licence number 3329: David Murray. Convicted of Theft aggravated by housebreaking and previous conviction at the Circuit Court of Justiciary at Glasgow, Scotland, 23 April 1851. Then aged 18 years and by trade a Brass founder. Sentence: 7 years' transportation. Licence granted: 12 June 1855, for early release from Defence hulk prison.
