The Windham and General Hewett left England the 24th of August, in convoy with the Wansted, Capt. Moore, who sailed from hence last Thursday for Batavia; the General Hewett arrived at Rio the 17th of November, and sailed again the 2d of December. Together with the military detachments, she received on board for this Settlement 300 male prisoners, of whom we are sorry to report the death of 35, whose names we shall endeavour to procure an account of, and publish in the next Gazette, for the information of their friends and families in Great Britain. 31/1/1813 Old Bailey: JOSEPH OSLING was indicted for burglariously breaking and entering the dwelling-house of James Gwyer, about the hour of two in the night, on the 17th of December, with intent the goods and chattels of the said James Gwyer burglariously to steal. Prisoner's Defence. I was coming past there between one and two o'clock, going to Smithfield-market. The prosecutor was at the door: as I went past he catched hold of me. I know nothing more about it. GUILTY - DEATH , aged 46. [The prisoner was recommended to mercy by the prosecutor on account of his offering no violence .] Old Sydney Burial List had a Joseph OSSLYM, convict, aged 45, buried 9/12/1814. This may have been this man. There was no other convict listed with the name of Osslym. No other records of him found.
