Convict Notes

Family myth has it that Charlotte was the “Daughter of a Master Shoemaker from France” - her father was actually a shoemaker, but born in Middlesex per the 1841 Census. She was one of seven children, which consisted of one boy and six girls and was born in a time when the slums of London were probably at their worst. Her Pamphilon line can be traced back to have lived in Essex for many generations, with the family having lived in the village of Widdington for well over 100 years.

Father was thought to be a "Master shoemaker from France" but, according to the 1841 U.K. Census, he was just a shoemaker and was born in Middlesex, England. His father was born in Essex, England, so any French ancestry was very questionable.

Charlotte is my Great Great Great grandmother. Charlotte lived in Bendigo and had 10 children born on the Goldfields
