Convict Notes




John was born in Cerne Abbas in 1825. Parents Henry and Elizabeth Peatey or Peaty. He married Edith Peaty 27 April 1845. His eldest brother Henry Peaty travelled to Australia as a free settler with his wife Sarah Knell and children. His eldest child Charles Peaty and his wife Martha Biles also travelled separately to Australia, of whom I am a descendant. John Peaty is my 3rd Great Grand Uncle. John Peaty may have had 1 child (Emily or Emma Peaty born 1846 in Cerne Abbas) with his young wife Edith prior to being transported to Australia.




21/3/1847 Bell's Life in London and Sporting Chronicle London, England: At the Dorchester Assizes, William Wallbridge and John Peaty were indicted for the manslaughter of Robert Foot at Buckland Newton, on the 17th of December. John Peaty arrived as and 'Exile' convict - William Wallbridge was not convicted as there was no evidence against him. 1849: TOL Wellington. 11/3/1850: TOL Passport - On the recommendation of Commissioner of Crown Lands Wellington. 27/4/1853 Sydney Morning Herald: TOL cancelled - for being absent from the muster of ticket of leave holders, held at Wellington, in January.
