Nicholas Pendergast was transported on the Tellicherry, departing 31st Aug 1805 and arriving 15th Feb 1806 with 161 passengers.

The 'Tellicherry' - built in 1796 at Thames, England for the East India Company. 467 tons. One sailing to Australia - Ireland to New South Wales in 1805, arriving 1806. 125 (or 130) male and 35 female prisoners, 2 children - 6 deaths. Many on the men on board were political prisoners. Departed from Cork, Ireland. (The register of these persons is NOT yet complete on this website - a work in progress.) In 1807 the Tellicherry was shipwrecked off the coast of the Philippines. The men were rescued and made their way to Manilla.

The death of Nicholas Pendergrass the Wexford political prisoner arriving in Sydney 1806 on the Tellicherry is unknown, as is the name of his parents. Please edit this information. Many people have used the death information of a 32 year old Nicholas Pendergrass in Wagga Wagga NSW BDM 10412/1876 incorrectly.

NSW BDM 10412/1876 death certificate relates to Nicholas Pendergast, aged 32 years, married to Maryann Williams in Coolringdon, Cooma NSW BDM 2053/1868. Nicholas Pendergast on the Tellicherry would have been approx 94 years old.

Nicholas Pendergast/or Michael was 23 years old on arrival in NSW - He was an Irish Rebel and was transported for 'Seducing soldiers to desert'. Parents: Edward and Ann Pendergast. 9/6/1811: Married Hannah Knight (Canada 1810) at St. Matthews, Windsor, NSW. - 1 child: Mary Ann Pendergrass b 24/7/1812 in Kemps Creek. NSW. 14/3/1812:TOL 1814 Muster: Living in Parramatta , a free man by servitude, and working as a stock keeper. 1822 Census: Pendergrass, Nicholas, free by servitude, Tellicherry, 7 years, labourer, Mr Geary, Windsor Night, Hannah, free by servitude, Canada, 7 years, wife of Wm Turner. Night, 10, born in the colony, child of Wm Turner. It seems that he and Hannah were separated at this time. Hannah was livin g in Liverpool 1823-5 1825 Muster: Pendergrass, Nicholas, free by servitude, Tellicherry 1809, 7 years, labourer, Bathurst Pendergast, Mary Ann, 13, born in the colony, daughter of Hannah Knight, Liverpool Knight, Hannah, free by servitude, Canada, 1809, 7 years, housekeeper with Turner at Liverpool. 1828 Census: Pendergrass, N., 50, free by servitude, Tellicherry, 1804, 7 years, Catholic, shepherd, to S. Terry, Bathurst. Pendergrass, Hannah, 34, government servant, Canada, 1810, 7 years, Protestant, factory, Parramatta. 29/10/1834:Nicholas had moved to the Windsor area where he was granted 40 acres of land at Pitt Town - the land was surrounded by land owned by Samuel Terry, who was Nicholas's employer in 1828. Death date not found.
