WESTERN CIRCUIT. Intrepidity of an Aged Female.—At the Assize held at Winchester on Thursday last week a man named George Pink was indicted for breaking into the house of Frances Covey, and stealing £270. Miss Covey a maiden lady, 85 years of age, and lives Basingstoke, keeping one servant maid, and both of them slept in the same room. They were awoke about two o'clock the morning by some noise, and instantly perceived man standing by the bed with a candle in one hand and a pistol in the other; they also saw that with his face was covered with something resembling a piece of muslin. Although alarmed, they were enabled to take notice of his dress, and that his waistcoat was of such pattern that they could recognise it. The man said, Money I w ant, and money I'll have. The old lady wanted to get out of bed and attack him, but the maid held her down and spoke to the man, who said if she was not quiet he would blow her brains out. The servant was so much frightened that she gave him the keys ; and the prisoner went to the drawers, and took out the money. He then tied the hands of the servant with a cord which he took from his pocket. He was apprehended the next day, and the money was found his possession. was sentenced to 15 years'  transportation. Exeter and Plymouth Gazette, 13 Mar 1847.
