ADM 101/24/31827-1828 Medical and surgical journal of the Elizabeth convict Ship, for 6 July 1827 to 26 January 1828 by Joseph H Hughes, Surgeon, during which time the said Elizabeth was employed in transporting female convicts from Ireland to Sydney, New South Wales. Folios 6-7: Ellen Power, aged 21, Convict; disease or hurt, obstinate obstipatio, applied for an aperient not having passed a stool for nine days. Put on sick list, 12 October 1827. Discharged, 1 November 1827. Described as very tall (six feet), thin, spare made girl, remarkable for great indolence and inattention to herself. Her pulse became almost imperceptible and she could only speak very quietly, leading the Surgeon to fear for her life. She had refused all nourishment for a long time past. Ordered to take exercise but it was extremely difficult to get her to do so.
