Joseph PYE was convicted at Leicester, England on 30 Dec 1833 for horse stealing - 2 mares. Life sentence. Gaol & Hulk Reports: "good". Transported to Van Diemen's Land (Tasmania) per the ship 'John Barry' arriving there 11 Aug 1834. Ship Surgeon's report: "orderly". Single man. Colony of VDL: Assigned to work service. Some notes of disorderly conduct. 1842: Ticket of Leave issued. 31 Aug 1843: Application for Permission to Marry - Joseph PYE ('John Barry') to Caroline PARKER (free). (ref. 52/1/2 ) 10 Nov 1843: Misconduct in having a Still in his possession. 12 mths hard labour and recommended to be sent to Port Arthur Penal Settlement. 23 March 1844: Died, at Port Arthur, VDL.
