William PYE was convicted at Norfolk, England on 28 March 1838 for stealing sheep. 10 yr transportation sentence. Hulk Report: “good”. Sent to Van Diemen’s Land (Tasmania) per the ship ‘Canton’ arriving there 12 Jan 1840. Ship surgeon’s report: “quiet and correct”.
Married man, children. Wife Sarah at the Work House.
Farm labourer; aged 46yrs; 5’7” height.
Native place of birth: Norfolk, England.
Colony of VDL:
15 mths Probation Period.
Clear Conduct Record.
1841: at Longford, VDL.
10 June 1845: Ticket of Leave granted.
Certificate of Freedom issued.
