1837, 8 August: James QUINN was admitted to Kilmainham Gaol from Dublin City (prisoner #632). He had been tried on 25 July 1837, convicted and sentenced to 7 years by the Recorder for felony of a handkerchief. He was described as 18 (born 1819), 5’4½” tall with grey eyes, brown hair and a pale complexion. 1837, 19 August: Discharged from Kilmainham to be “embarked on board the Neptune” (see Ireland, Prison Registers, 1790-1924; Dublin, Kilmainham 1815-1910).

Printed Indentures state that James Quinn was 16 years old; could read; religion Roman Catholic; status single and was a stable boy. He was a native of City of Dublin. He was convicted for picking pockets in Dublin City on 14 July 1837and sentenced to 7 years. He had previously served 6 months for a prior conviction. Physical attributes Height 5 feet 4 1/2 inches; complexion sallow and freckled; hair brown and hazel grey eyes. Prisoner number 38-175 and transport number 178.
