Samuel RAMSDEN was convicted at Manchester, England on 7 Aug 1848 for stealing wearing apparel. 7 yr transportation sentence. Sent to Van Diemen's Land (Tasmania) per the ship 'Rodney' arriving 28 Nov 1850. Single man; labourer; aged 22 yrs; 5'3 1/2" height; Church of England; can read & write; fair complexion; light brown hair; light brown eyes. Native place of birth: Huddersfield. Father: James Sisters: Mary, Elizabeth & Sarah Brothers: William, E...; Joseph VDL: 1850: Prison Barracks 1851: Great Swan Port 23 March 1852: Ticket of Leave granted. 14 June 1853: Conditional Pardon approved. 14 April 1856: Certificate of Freedom issued. Note on record (undated): Enquiry for this man from C. Packer, Parsonage, nr Huddersfield. 7 March 1864: charged with stealing. Launceston Court. 6 mths imprisonment, with hard labour.
