Petitioner(s): Francis Riordan, the prisoner's father; Honora Riordan, the prisoner's mother; 32 farmers and 12 people of Donoughmore [County Cork, Ireland] with character references. Grounds for clemency: Prisoner got into a fight outside a pub after refusing to hand over a horse he was looking after; did not produce witnesses as they did not think such a severe penalty would be imposed; no previous conviction; parents' declining health; cannot look after his sisters.
