Rebecca Reynolds was transported on the Indefatigable And Minstrel, departing 9th May 1812 and arriving 19th Oct 1812 with 331 passengers.

The Indefatigable was built at Whitby, England. She was square-rigged three masted ship of 549 tons and had three decks; a length of 127 ft. and a beam of 31ft. 8ins. The Indefatigable sailed from England on 4th June 1812 in company with the Minstrel. The Indefatigable came direct to Hobart, VDL arriving there on 19 October 1812. One prisoner died on the voyage out. Having disembarked the prisoners in Hobart, the Indefatigable arrived in Port Jackson on 6 December 1812, departing there bound for England in January 1813. The Indefatigable returned to Australia with convicts in 1815 (see separate listing).

Family connections for Rebecca (Reynolds) are: REYNOLDS Rebecca (Reynolds) was born about 1786. She was tried for stealing a straw bonnet from a child, on 12 7 1811, of Thomas (Day) at Old Bailey on 18 9 1811, held at Middlesex Gaol Delivery & arrived at Port Jackson NSW as a convict after 19 10 1812 after a voyage of 6months on MINSTREL travelling with INDEFATIGIBLE. She married Charles (Sleaford) on 28 6 1813 at St Matthews CofE Windsor. She was recorded with her husband at Hawkesbury in 1816. She died on 30 12 1816 age32 & was buried at Old Sydney Burial Ground St Phillips CofE Sydney. [Some details taken from this Website] Charles (Sleaford) was tried at Surrey Assizes, sentenced to Life & arrived in NSW as a convict on 16 12 1810 after a voyage of 5.5months on INDIAN. He was recorded in 1814 assigned to Wm (Cox) Esq, with his wife at Hawkesbury in 1816 & assigned to Wm (Cox) Esq in 1821. Theft; grand larceny (to 1827). 18th September 1811 Text type Trial account Defendants REBECCA REYNOLDS Offences Theft > Grand larceny Session Date 18th September 1811 Reference Number t18110918-170 Verdicts Guilty Punishments Transportation 791. REBECCA REYNOLDS was indicted for feloniously stealing, on the 12th of July , a straw bonnet, value 5 s. the property of Thomas Day . THOMAS DAY . I live at 42, Whitechapel-road , I keep a straw bonnet shop . On the 12th of July, about three o'clock in the afternoon, I was informed that my child was taken away by a woman; my child had been playing about the door, she was missing an hour and a half. Q. What is the age of your child - A. About six years of age, my child had a straw bonnet on; I ran in the direction of the person that had described the circumstance; I came up to the prisoner about two hundred yards in Greenfield-street, I then perceived the prisoner in the custody of William Johnson . The child was brought home before. Q. What was the worth of the bonnets - A. Five shillings. WILLIAM JOHNSON . On the 12th of July between two and three o'clock, I heard this child cry in Cannon-street-road, she said the woman had taken her bonnet; she pointed to the prisoner, the prisoner then began to run; the child was without a bonnet at the time; I left the child in care of a neighbour, and ran after the woman; I never lost sight of her, only just as she turned the corner; she ran half a mile as fast as she could before I catched her. When I came up to her I said, you strumpet how dare you to strip a child in the road. I took the bonnet immediately out of her hand. The prisoner said nothing but came back along with me. I delivered up the woman and the bonnet to the father of the child in Greenfield-street. GEORGE NEWBOLD . This bonnet was delivered to me by Mr. Day, about three o'clock on the 12th of June, I took charge of the prisoner; he charged the prisoner with stealing this bonnet, in the hearing of the child, and enticing her away by her offering her cherries, and then taking away her bonnet; I took the prisoner in custody, and took her before the magistrate. I have kept the bonnet in my possession ever since. Prosecutor. That is the bonnet my child was dressed in on that day. The prisoner said nothing in her defence, nor called any witnesses to her character. GUILTY , aged 19. Transported for Seven Years . Second Middlesex jury, before Mr. Common Serjeant.
