Robert Mayhew was transported on the General Hewett, departing 31st Jul 1813 and arriving 7th Feb 1814 with 301 passengers.
The Windham and General Hewett left England the 24th of August, in convoy with the Wansted, Capt. Moore, who sailed from hence last Thursday for Batavia; the General Hewett arrived at Rio the 17th of November, and sailed again the 2d of December. Together with the military detachments, she received on board for this Settlement 300 male prisoners, of whom we are sorry to report the death of 35, whose names we shall endeavour to procure an account of, and publish in the next Gazette, for the information of their friends and families in Great Britain. Entry No 63. ---------------------------------------------------- Principal Superintendent of Convicts' Office, December 28, 1835. NOTICE. THE Conditional Pardons granted to the undermentioned Persons are now lying at this Office, and will be delivered to the respective Parties on Payment of the Fees due thereon to the Public : — General Hewitt, Robert Mayhew alias Mayes. NORFOLK ASSIZES. These following prisoners were capitally convicted, and received sentence of death : … Benjamin Elsey, for stealing sundry articles from the house of James Peck, innholder, of Old Buckenham; and Robert Mayhew alias Mares, for the same offence the house of Mr. Henry Burrell, Roydon. Before the Judge left the town, Mayhew, Elsey, and were reprieved but Harper and Impson were left for execution. Cambridge Chronicle, 2 Apr 1813. --------------------------------------------------- Last week, were removed from the Castle, Richard Webb, Robt. Mayhew, and Benjamin Elsey, under sentence of transportation for life; Robt. Gore, for 14 years; and Robt. Plumb and Richard Belts, for 7 years on board the hulk at Langston.
