On the night of the same day, an armed party of about twenty men. went to the house of a poor man, a blacksmith. of the name of John Feehan, of Knockaroom, in the parish of Aghavoe, near  Borris-in Ossory, in the Queen's County—and having placed him on his knees, presented a gun at his head, when his unfortunate wife, with an infant at her breast, rushed forward to save him—this  irresistable appeal saved his life. They took a gun, and about twenty yards further on,   knocked at the door of a very respectable farmer of the name of Brophy, and after announcing themselves as part of Sergeant Dobb's police, the door was opened for them by a son of Brophy, who instantly called out to his father not to come down as they were not the police. The words were scarcely uttered, when they shot him through the heart, and very deliberately departed. Warder and Dublin Weekly Mail, 13 April 1831.

Queen’s County. A man named Michael Robinson was tried for a murder and Whiteboy offence which took place so far back as the 1st of April, 1831. The person murdered  was a man named Brophy, whose house was attacked by an armed party and shots fired into it, one of which killed him. The parties accused fled the country, and none of them were heard of until Robinson’s return some short time ago. He was convicted on the clearest testimony; and when he heard the verdict he cried out to some of his friends  who were in the Court to home and take no trouble about him as he was to be hanged, and he was not sorry for it. When being removed from the dock he had a loaf of bread in his hand which he kicked the height of a house, saying he would eat no more, and hoped they would hang him before he got hungry! His conduct was exceedingly hardened. Belfast Commercial Chronicle, 27 March 1837.
