Convict Notes

On Friday last an Inquest was held at the Female Factory, Parramatta, on the body of Ann Russell, lately arrived per Elizabeth. It appeared that the deceased, when she arrived at Parramatta by the boat, was unable to stand, and had to be conveyed in a cart to the Factory, where she survived but a few hours. Verdict, Died by the Visitation of God. Sydney Gazette, Wed 30 Jan 1828. The Coroner for Parramatta called together a Jury of the inhabitants on Friday last. The Inquest assembled at the Female Factory where one of the women of that establishment lay dead. Her name proved to be Ann Russell. She was one of those whom one of the late prison ships brought to Sydney. Not being assigned to any particular person on her first landing, Ann Russel was translated to the factory where she was taken ill, and expired of a sudden. The Jury returned a verdict—died by the visitation of God. The Australian, 30 Jan 1828.
