Thomas RYAN was 21 on arrival in NSW. He could read and write. A Roman Catholic, he was single and his native place was Co Dublin. He had a previous conviction with a sentence of 7 months (see NSW Convict Indents, 1788-1842; Non-Annotated Printed Indentures 1838). 1842, 11 May: Granted a Ticket of Leave No.42/1253 for the District of Scone (altered to Murrurundi on 28 June 1843) (see New South Wales, Australia, Tickets of Leave, 1810-1869; Ticket of leave butts (NRS 12202), Apr 1842-Jul 1842). 1842, 8 July: Issued with a Ticket of Leave Passport No.42/720 allowing him to proceed to the New England district "in the service of C.C. McDonald Esq for 12 months" (see New South Wales, Australia, Tickets of Leave, 1810-1869; Butts of ticket of leave passports, 1835-1869 (NRS 12204), 1842-1843). 1844, 8 August: Granted a Certificate of Freedom No.44/1180. Born 1817, his native place is listed as County Dublin. He was in the New England district of NSW at the time this certificate was issued (see New South Wales, Australia, Certificates of Freedom, 1810-1814, 1827-1867; Butts of Certificates of Freedom 1844 August All Records).


1837, 17 August: Thomas RYAN was admitted to Kilmainham Gaol, Dublin, from Antrim (prisoner #677). He had been tried on 30 June 1837, convicted and sentenced to 7 years for larceny [charge on Indents is shoplifting] by P Fogarty Esq. He was described as 21, 5’3” tall with hazel eyes, dark hair and a fair complexion. 1837, 17 August: Discharged to be “embarked on the convict ship Neptune” (see Ireland, Prison Registers, 1790-1924; Dublin, Kilmainham 1815-1910).
