Thomas Salter was convicted at Wiltshire, England on 11/08/1838 for horse stealing. 10yr sentence. Transported to Norfolk Island on the 'Mangles', arriving 18/05/1840. Aged 40yrs; coachman/groom; Protestant; can read & write; sallow complexion; dk brown hair; brown eyes. Native place of birth - Melksham, Wilts. Transferred to Van Diemen's Land (Tasmania) per 'Duke of Richmond', arriving 12/03/1844. 24/05/1845: Ticket of Leave granted.
