1835: Aged 19yrs; a blanket weaver; 5'6"; fair complexion; brown hair; grey eyes. Native place: Rochdale, England. Application for permission to marry: 30 June 1845 - to Elizabeth McDonald (free). Approved. Marriage: 13 Aug 1845 at Avoca, VDL to Elizabeth McDonald. Henry aged 28yrs, bachelor, stock keeper, transported per 'John Barry'. Elizabeth aged 16yrs, farmer's daughter, spinster. Church of England rites. (Ref. 37/1/4 no. 2160) Further charge in VDL: Launceston Court 7 Nov 1849: Stealing a heifer & calf. Life Sentence. 6 years Probation Period. Sent to Port Arthur Penal Settlement then onto Norfolk Island. Returned to Van Diemen's Land, per the 'Franklin' Oct 1853. Ticket of Leave granted 11 March 1856. Second Marriage: to Catherine Molony. 28 April 1856 Hobart district. Henry, aged 40yrs, widower, farmer. Catherine, aged 35yrs, servant, spinster (transported per 'Blackfriar' 1851). Transported to Van Diemen's Land (Tasmania) per the 'John Barry' arriving 11 Aug 1834. Single man. Various assignments of work service. 29 May 1835: Abscond. 36 lashes. 4 June 1835: Abscond. Imprisonments, with hard labour 6mths. 30 Nov 1835: Abscond. 50 lashes & existing sentence of hard labour extended 12mths. To be sent to Chain Gang in the interior - Constitution Hill. 14 Jan 1836: Abscond. To serve the remainder of his road party sentence at Constitution Hill in irons. 23 Feb 1836: Absent and stealing blankets. Committed for trial. Court 14 March 1836 - further 14 yr sentence. To be sent to Port Arthur Penal Settlement for 3 years and be placed under severe discipline. 10 Aug 1836: Being in the Govt Garden with other prisoners. 14 days in Chain Gang at Port Arthur. 30 Sept 1836: Being absent from prescribed area. 6weeks in Chain Gang. 12 May 1838: Improper language. 3 days sol confinement at Port Arthur. Ticket of Leave granted 6 Jan 1843 Conditional Pardon granted 4 Oct 1847.
