In November 1828 Joseph Hearne applied for permission to marry Elizabeth Sherridan per “Elizabeth II”. His application stated, he was aged 33 years, able to support a wife and was of good character. On the 12th November 1828 Joseph was baptised into Catholic Church at Liverpool. Entry on baptism certificate reads --- Rec'd into church Joseph Hearne without Cerem. - Bap't L’pool. Joseph probably became a catholic in order to marry Elizabeth. They were married 12th November by Rev D. Powerand at St Mary’s RC Chapel Sydney and settled in the Prospect Area on the outskirts of Sydney. Joseph died 25th November 1861. Buried at the Pastoral Cemetery, Prospect NSW. Pleurisy was the verdict of a Coroner’s inquest held 26th November 1861 in the district of Parramatta. The informant on the death certificate was G I Smith - Householder of Prospect. The name or Joseph’s wife given by G Smith was Brown, Christian name unknown.

ADM 101/24/31827-1828 Medical and surgical journal of the Elizabeth convict Ship, for 6 July 1827 to 26 January 1828 by Joseph H Hughes, Surgeon, during which time the said Elizabeth was employed in transporting female convicts from Ireland to Sydney, New South Wales.
