James Short was 50 years old when convicted at the Old Bailey for "killing 2 mares". James was an Ostler working at the Bull and Mouth when charged with the offence. James stated that the doors of the stables were always open and that anyone could have killed the horses. 19/6/1835: Convict Death Register: James died aged 61 at the Sydney Hospital.
