Convict Notes




Thomas is the son of Thomas and Helen Short (nee Dempster). He was born in Montrose Scotland where his father was garrisoned. His father later returned to his native Birmingham with his growing family and worked as an iron founder. Thomas Short junior arrived in Sydney Cove on 27 August 1829. He received a Ticket of Leave in May 1839 requiring that he remain in the district of Berrima. He received his Conditional Pardon on 30 July 1847. A few years later he went to Victoria possibly in search of gold. On the 16 June 1851 he married Ellen Fennelly and they had 5 children. Thomas died in Heathcote Victoria in 1880. His occupation was listed as Farmer on his death certificate.
