William SMITH (proper name William LIDDLE or SIDDLE) was convicted at CCC, London on 2 May 1837 for Larceny - stealing a cask of butter. Previous conviction for embezzlement with 3 mths in prison. 7 yr transportation sentence. Sent to Van Diemen's Land (Tasmania) per the 'Moffatt' arriving 1 April 1838. Aged 21yrs; single man; 5'6"; Native Place: London, England. Work assignments in the Colony of VDL. Some notes of misconduct. Free Certificate 1844 no. 485.
