Convict Notes
Solomon was 45 years old on arrival in VDL according to his record page. Birth dates found range from 1795 to 1811. Solomon was transported for "Stealing a lamb" from Mr Gillot near Aylesbury. Solomon was 5'4 1/4" tall, sallow complexion, dark brown to grey hair, dark brown whiskers, brown eyes, could read and write a little. 21/8/1850: TOL 21/10/1854: Free Certificate. The Mercury (Hobart, Tas. : 1860 - 1954) Monday 19 June 1865 ACCIDENT.-On Saturday afternoon an accident occurred on the Sandy Bay rand, which was, providentially, attended only with trivial results. A man named Solomon Parslow was riding on his dray, and in trying to get off the shaft fell forward, the wheel passing over his body from the abdomen to the head. He was picked up and conveyed to the hospital, where it was found that he was intoxicated, but had sustained no other injury than a bruise of the mouth, which bled slightly. Parslow, residing in the Brown's River district, was brought to the General Hospital, in a semi-insensible condition, in charge of his son, a young lad. The only injuries on the man's body were two black eyes, and bruised arm and face. The lad stated that his father went out with a horse and dray on Saturday, and did not return home that night. A search he was found lying in an insensible condition at his horse's feet on Hopwood's ground. It is believed that the man had some money on him when he left home on Saturday morning, but when found his pockets were empty. Foul play was suspected, but Parslow had not sufficiently recovered to give an account of the manner in which his injuries were caused. Hi, Solomon was my 3 x Greatgrandfather, He landed VDL, 1850. I am Having troubles finding any thing about him in Tasmania, I beleive he was at Browns river or kingston? Where did he die??? can any one out there in Aus/Tas Help me.
Solomon PARSLOW can be found in the 1841 England Census record with wife Charlotte (25) and children John (8), Fanny (5), Jane (3) and Jesse (1). They are living in Monks Risborough, Buckinghamshire. Solomon is described as "Timber Dealer" aged 30. Another daughter - Ann (b.1847) appears in the 1851 England Census with Charlotte. It appears that Charlotte did not re-marry. She died in 1869, aged 58, in Buckinghamshire, England. There are two previous criminal charges on record for Solomon, neither involving a sentence. Charlotte and the children continued to live in the area (Lacey Green). In the 1861 England Census, Charlotte is listed as "Widow". (I have more information about his children's descendants, and some ideas about Solomon's ancestry - just ask).
