John Stubbings was convicted at Essex, 27 Nov 1838 for burglary – he stole gin, rum and brandy from Sarah Overall who keeps the Angel Inn at Brookes. 10yr sentence. Transported to Norfolk Island per the ‘Mangles’, arriving 18/05/1840. Single; wheelwright; 5’ 3”; aged 24yrs; Protestant; can read & write; fresh complexion; brown hair; black eyes. Native place of birth - Essex. Station Gang: Norfolk Island. Transferred to Van Diemen’s Land per the ‘Duke of Richmond’, arriving 12/03/1844.
