James TACEY, aged 19yrs, was convicted at Nottingham, England on 18 Oct 1847 for stealing a spade & other articles. Previous offence and imprisoned for 12 mths. 7 yr transportation sentence. Sent to Van Diemen's Land (Tasmania), Austraia per the ship "Blenheim" arriving 24 July 1850. Aged 19 yrs; single man; labourer; Roman Catholic; can read & write a little; 5'4 1/4" height; fresh complexion; dk brown hair; Hazel eyes; wears ring on left hand; tatoos. Native Place of birth: Nottingham (ref. as recorded on Convict record in VDL) Half Sister: Sarah James. Colony of VDL: 30 July 1850: Prison Barracks, Hobart. 3 Dec 1850: Ticket of Leave granted. 30 Sept 1851: Hobart - out after hours. 14 days imprisonment, with hard labour. 14 Sept 1852: Ticket of Leave revoked as he did not attend Muster. 21 Sept 1852: Ticket of Leave restored. 7 April 1853: at Westbury - drunk. 14 days hard labour. 31 Oct 1853: at Launceston - having money & tobacco in his possession. 14 days solitary confinement. 7 March 1854: Ticket of Leave revoked 23 June 1854: at Launceston, R. Gunn - disobedience of orders. Admonished. 18 Oct 1854: Free Certificate issued, at Launceston. 14 May 1861: at Launceston - stealing a silk handkerchief. 6 mths hard labour. (N.B.) There are two persons named James Tacey in the Colony abt the same times, also other named James Tracey.
