County of Antrim Assizes, John Taggart, for stealing a gelding the property of Robert Foothy, sen. on 11th July. Robert Foothy -A gelding was stolen from his father's ground, near Chapelpatrick, on 11th July-found him in Belfast a few days after with a man named Chambers. Robert Chambers-Lives in Belfast-a man who called himself John Taggart brought a horse to his place on Wednesday 14th July-.the horse was claimed and taken by last witness -would not know Taggart now -knew him in the police-office. Stewart Beggs (police-office) - Recollects prisoner being brought to police-office and last witness swearing to him as John Taggart -Taggart said that he picked the horse off the road. Guilty -Sentence of death recorded. Belfast News-Letter, 14 Aug 1829.
