1819 Voyage. St Michael, Captain Dillon, Left Calcutta 8 July 1819, arrived in VDL 9 Nov 1819, and on to Sydney. SHIP News.-On Tuesday last arrived the ship St Michael Captain Dillon, from Calcutta, with a choice and valuable investment of merchandise. She left Calcutta the 8th July last; and on her way to this port she touched at Prince of Wales Island and Acheen; from the latter place she was only 42 days in making this port,, being the shortest passage ever made to this Territory. Hobart Town Gazette, Sat 13 Nov 1819 SHIP NEWS. On Sunday last arrived from Calcutta, the ship St. Michael, Captain Dillon, with a valuable investment of sundries. She sailed from Calcutta the 8th of July ; had the misfortune to spring a leak the 19th of the same month, and bore up for Prince of Wales’s Island to refit, which port she gained the 3d of August, and sailed for this Colony the 6th of September, calling at Hobart Town, which she reached in 42 days, on her way hither. Sydney Gazette, 4 Dec 1819 Several prisoners who arrived in the St. Michael from India, were, with the exception of two who remained sick, sent by that vessel to Sydney, from which place they had escaped. Hobart Town Gazette, 27 Nov 1819. 1820 Voyage. St Michael, under Captain Marsh, sailed from Calcutta, arriving in VDL 28 Sept 1820. Left Hobart, 16 Oct 1820, for Sydney, arriving there, 30 October 1820. On Thursday 13 convicts, who arrived in the ship St. Michael from Calcutta, were landed. Amongst them are five out of the thirteen piratical convicts who took out the Young Lachlan schooner in March 1819; in which they were wrecked upon an Island on the Coast of Java. They were seized and imprisoned at Batavia, where several of them died. The names of the five who are now brought back are, Daniel Clarke, Christopher Read, Malcolm Campbell, Samuel O'Hara, and Patrick Cotton. Hobart Town Gazette, 30 Sept 1820. On Monday arrived from Calcutta via Hobart Town, the ship St. Michael, Captain Marsh, with a valuable investment of sundries. She sailed from the Derwent the 18th ult. Passengers from Calcutta; Lieutenant Jacobs, of the Bengal Army, and Mrs. Jacobs. She also conveys hither from India 8 prisoners of the Crown. Sydney Gazette, Sat 4 Nov 1820.

Family connections for Thomas Michael (Pembroke) are: PEMBROKE Thomas Michael (Pembroke) was born about 1789/91/94/96 at Tralee Kerry county Ireland & became a linen draper. He enlisted with East India Corps & arrived as a Mattros horse cavalry/clerk in Madras? India in 1814 on SURREY. He was convicted at Madras on 7 10 1818, sentenced to 7years & arrived in NSW via Van Diemens Land as a convict about 9 11 1818/9 after a voyage of 4months on ST MICHAEL; he was Catholic 5'7" fresh/ruddy complexion long visage brown hair hazel eyes. He had been issued his Ticket of Leave when he married Frances (Colli/etts) with permisson on 25 7 1822 at Christ Church Castlereagh. On 12 5 1825 he was sent to Evan; he was issued his Certificate of Freedom on 18 10 1825 & he was on list of possible grantees on 15 11 1825. In 1828 he is recorded as Protestant a farmer at Evan with 20acres. In July 1835 he was granted 50acres at 20mile Hollow County Cook on road to Bathurst which he put up for sale as 50acres with Woodman Inn in October 1838-he was living there. He died before 1842. In 1828 she is recorded with her parents at Evan. 2.Thomas (Pembroke) was born in 1824. He died on 21 4 1824 age<4m. 3.William (Pembroke) was born in 1824 also & baptised on 24 11 1824 at St Marys RC Sydney. In 1828 he is recorded with his parents at Evan. 4.Garrett deGoggin (Pembroke) was born on 14 8 1826 & baptised on 26 10 1826 at St Marys RC Sydney. In 1828 he is recorded with his parents at Evan. He died on 6 12 1858 age32. 5.Peirce (Pembroke) was born on 28 8 1828 & baptised on 7 9 1828 at Christ Church Castlereagh. He died on 12 9 1828 age15d. 6.Edwain (Pembroke) was born in 1829. "Thomas Pembroke, Matross, Horse Artillery, aged 20 from Ireland who arrived in India on the ship Surrey in 1814. [ Madras Muster Rolls 1817: L / MIL / 11 / 126 ]. " Matross" is described as being an inferior class of soldier in the Artillery, the word coming from the German "matrose" or sailor. Even at this period in time it was seen as almost obsolete. The following description of grants of land, with the names of the persons to whom they were originally promised, or by whom they are now claimed, are published for general information, in order that all parties concerned may have an opportunity of correcting any errors or omissions that may have been made inadvertently. It is requested that within three months of the present date, the particulars required by the government notice of the 1st October, 1838, may be accurately furnished to the colonial secretary's office. If these be duly furnished and satisfactory, and if no caveat be lodged or other cause of uncertainty appear, the deeds will be prepared accordingly, as soon as possible after the expiration of the stated period of three months. If the required particulars be not furnished within that period, or if a caveat be lodged, or other cause of uncertainty arise, which cannot be satisfactorily determined by the government, the case will be referred to the commissioners of claims, and the parties subjected to the expense of that proceeding. Thomas Michael Pembroke, fifty acres, county of Cook, parish unnamed, Twenty mile Hollow; commencing at the southwest corner on the Bathurst road, 2 chains 42 links west from the corner of the inn, and bounded on the west by a line north 49 chains 50 links; on the north by a line east 2 chains; on the east by a line south 61 chains to the Bathurst road; and southerly by that road to the southwest corner as aforesaid. Promised by Governor Bourke on the 14th of July, 1835, and possession given on the 28th of October following as a primary grant in pursuance of a conditional promise made by Sir Ralph Darling on the 23rd of November, 1830. Quit rent 18s. 4d. sterling per annum, commencing the 1st of January, 1843. This land was located on an order of Governor Bourke, dated 14/A July, 1835, in pursuance of a promise of Governor Darling, dated 23rd November, 1830, in favour of Thomas Michael Pembroke, since deceased, whose representatives are to shew to whom a deed of grant should now issue.
