13/4/1839 Leeds Times Yorkshire, England: WEST RIDING SESSIONS George Thompson (22), and William Zanker (24), stealing 50 yards of cotton and other articles, from the house of Hannah Dickinson, of Sheffield. 10 years. William Zanker arrived NSW per 'Mangles 1840' 18/5/1840: William was sent and arrived at Norfolk Island. He was then sent to VDL per ‘Duke of Richmond’ which arrived in VDL 12/3/1844. George Thompson was 23 years old on arrival : Native Place: Nottinghamshire. George could read, was Protestant, single, 5'3½" tall, ruddy complexion, sandy hair, hazel eyes, small blue spot between the eyebrows, hairy mole on right side of chin, sun on upper, and anchor inside lower right arm, star back of right hand, four scars on back, and four inside left hand, another on back of forefinger of same. George Thompson was aslo sent to Norfolk Island on the 18/5/1840. 12/3/1844: To VDL per "Duke of Richmond". George was then described as: 27 years old, a Pit Sawyer, 5'3" tall, fresh complexion, brown hair, sandy whiskers, grey eyes. 12/8/1845: TOL 16/7/1846: Tried at Hobart QS for Cattle Stealing - Acquitted. 4/8/1846: TOL Cancelled. 2/2/1847: TOL Restored. 14/3/1848: TOL Revoked for being in a Public House after hours and resisting a constable in the execution of his duty. 16/4/1849: Free Certificate.
