Thomas Thornton was taken to Hobart Town , Van Diemens Land, by the Merope, and then continued to Sydney per the Edward Lombe. On Sunday ...and the same day the Edward Lombe proceeded on her voyage to Sydney. Passengers ... and 5 prisoners brought from Port Louis, Mauritius in the Merope. Hobart Town Courier, 4 Jan 1833. From Co Wicklow Ireland. Age 24 Single catholic who could read and write. Was a farmers servant and soldier(Private). Tried at Moulmein 26/5/1831. No Previous convictions. 5' 4 1/2" Ruddy complexion brown hair and blue grey eyes. Merope sailed on 28/8/1832 from the Residency of Fort William in Bengal in the East Indies New South Wales, Australia, Certificates of Freedom, 1810-1814, 1827-1867 (NRS 12210) Butts of Certificates of Freedom 1839 August 7. Cert no 39/1224 On 23/8/1838 received 18 months for larceny at Bathurst
