BERKSHIRE.—Mary Turner and Sarah Worman were indicted for stealing, on the 26th of July, from the person of Robert Christford, a pocket-book, containing 741. in notes, four sovereigns, and silk handkerchief, and Edmund Brown and George Pocock, for receiving for receiving the same. Mr. Talfourd conducted the prosecution; Mr. Shepherd the defence of the principals, and Mr. Curwood the defence of receivers. The prosecutor stated that he was a coachman, and that the 26th of July was bringing his master’s horses from London through Speen, where where he stopped; and that the two females accosted him in the street and asked him for gin; that he went to a gin-shop and treated them; after which he took walk upon the road with them, and they took considerable liberties with him, and soon after they left him he missed the property. He pursued them and overtook Worman, and she was searched but nothing was found upon her. He found Turner at the Coach and Horses, where she lodged, and nothing was found her. He gave them both in charge to the constable, who let them go. The next morning the females, about eight o’clock, Were observed to go to the dung heap of the inn yard, and take something out of it; they then went to ditch the back the inn. This excited the suspicion of the witness who saw them—who, when they were gone, found the pocket-book and handkerchief in the dung. They were thus pursued to Southampton, and taken in company with the two men, in whose possession part of the notes were found. They were found guilty, and sentenced to seven years transportation. John Bull, 15 Mar 1824
