On Tuesday last, the undermentioned convicts passed through this town, with military escort, on their route from Carrickfergus to Cork, there to embark for New South Wales: Thomas Walker, John Whaley, John Whaley, jun. father and son, John Lane, Daniel McBride, John Hamill, John Corrigan, committed from the Police Office, Belfast; Alexander Hunter, Dennis Hunter, Bernard McLaughlin, David McGowan, smugglers of tobacco; ??, James Henry, and Thomas Rice. Belfast Commercial Chronicle, 17 Sept 1821.

Colonial Secretary Papers: WHALEY, John (Junior). Per "Isabella", 1822 1822 Mar 14: On list of convicts landed from the "Isabella" & forwarded to Parramatta for distribution (Reel 6009; 4/3505 p.11) 1827: TOL 17/3/1828: COF (the dates are the same for his father).

2 convictions at same Antrim assizes on same date for theft one after other ... this is a father & son on different counts and dates of offence . Both came Sydney on the Isabella at same time ,both sentenced to 7 yrs . John jnr is well recorded thru ancestry and had 13 children despite being charged with murder 2 months after cert of freedom . .John Jnr was 5'6" tall,fair complexion ,hair brown ,eyes hazel.One was convicted for theft of a shovel + a chook , other was for stealing a key in company of others also charged....no differentiation in court to jnr /snr however. ....copies of court sentencing available on request.
