BERKSHIRE ASSIZES James Hodges, aged 26, and Richard Whiteman, aged 24, charged with having stolen two horses, at the parish of Bucklebury. Death. Morning Post, 22 July 1818.




The four capital convicts, James Hodges and Richard Whiteman, tor horse stealing; and Thomas Mills and Thomas Ayres, for housebreaking, left for execution, at Reading, were expected to have undergone the awful sentence of the law, on Saturday. A large concourse of people were in consequence assembled; but the unfortunate were respited—the two former during pleasure, the latter for ? days only Weekly Dispatch, 9 Aug 1818.
