The four capital convicts, James Hodges and Richard Whiteman, tor horse stealing; and Thomas Mills and Thomas Ayres, for housebreaking, left for execution, at Reading, were expected to have undergone the awful sentence of the law, on Saturday. A large concourse of people were in consequence assembled; but the unfortunate were respited—the two former during pleasure, the latter for ? days only Weekly Dispatch, 9 Aug 1818.
