Correction: He was sent to Gibraltar on 4 March, 1851, per the convict ship HAMILLA MITCHELL (not Hamilton Mitchell).

FOOTNOTE: Family researchers give his year of birth as about 1822, and date of death as Monday, 9 December, 1907, at Subiaco. Thomas Whittle married Bridget Josephine Ellis (widow of John Acton Wroth), in 1879, at Toodyay. Their only child, Rose Clara Whittle, died in 1881. Bridget died in 1915.

From the "Newcastle Herald and Toodyay District Chronicle", Sat 14 Dec 1907, Page 4: Local and General News. Thomas Whittle a very old identity of the Toodyay district, died in Perth recently. He was buried in the Methodist portion of the Karrakatta cemetary [sic] on Tuesday. The deceased came to Newcastle about 49 years ago, and was said to be over 85 years of age. W.A., are respectfully invited to follow his remains to the place of interment, the Methodist portion of the Karrakatta Cemetery. The Funeral is appointed to leave Mr. Donald J. 4 July, 1857: Admitted to Portsmouth prison, in Penny Street, Portsmouth, Hampshire; inmate #4092. He was listed as 20 years old (when convicted), able to read and write. There are dashes in the sections for marital status, occupation and religion, and "No caption form" is written under "Previous conviction and character" (UK, Prison Commission Records, 1770-1951; Portsmouth Prison; Registers of Prisoners; 1855-1858). --0--
