National Archives. Criminal Petition. HO 17/81/29. Prisoner name: George Whitton. Court and date of trial: Northampton Lent Assizes 1820. Crime: Not stated. Initial sentence: Transportation for life. Annotated (Outcome): Nil. Petitioner(s): Mark Milnes. Grounds for clemency (Petition Details): Honesty and sobriety during his apprenticeship, his family have lived in Weedon [Northamptonshire] for 35 years and have been of a very respectable character; he is the only son of an aged parent who is very distressed and wishes to see her only son once more before she dies. Additional Information: The prisoner is on board the Justitia hulk at Woolwich. [Reference in HO 19/3 Register of Criminal Petitions given as Ph 29]. Date: July 13 1820.

At Northampton assizes, ... George Whitton, for burglary, ... severally received sentence of death, but were all reprieved before the Judge left the town.  Cambridge Chronicle, 10 Mar 1820.
