Irish Convict Database, by Peter Mayberry. Thomas Willson, alias Wilson, age on arrival, 21, per Mangles (5), 1828. Tried at Dublin, 1827, 7 years for Stealing bonnets. DOB, 1807, native place, Dublin. Single. Protestant. Trade, Stone cutters labourer.




Thomas WILSON was convicted at Dublin, Ireland and was transported to New South Wales, Australia per the ship 'Mangles' 1828. 20 Oct 1834: Certificate of Freedom (ref. NSW no. 34/1437) Further charge in Australia: Adelaide Supreme Court 11 March 1842 - Burglary & stealing cloth. Further sentence of transportation of 7 yrs - sent to Van Diemen's Land (Tasmania) per the ship 'Dorset'. Stated and recorded that he had been previously convicted at Dublin and transported to NSW per the 'Mangles' 1818 (should be 1828). Received Certificate of Freedom after serving his sentence. 1842 details: aged 52 yrs; 5'5 1/2" height; labourer & shoemaker; single man. Native place of birth: Dublin, Ireland. Stated his father William was alive 2 yrs ago (in 1842) & 2 brothers and 2 sisters living at his native place of birth. Colony of VDL: 1844: 3rd class convict.
