In the colony, John married Maria Kentwell, May 5 1823 at St Matthews, Windsor.
Maria was the daughter of William Kentwell (Convict, Admiral Barrington, 1791) and Elizabeth Morris (Convict, Mary Ann, 1791).

John and Maria had 5 children from 1824 until 1833. The last child being born just after John died! Maria then married John Greenwood (Convict, Prince Regent, 1826). Greenwood had been an assigned servant to John Wood.
