The 'Ocean' was an English merchant ship and whaler built in 1794 at South Shields, England. In 1803 she accompanied the ship 'Calcutta' to Australia, acting as a transport supply ship. When the settlers abondoned Port Phillip, Melbourne, Victoria the ship transferred convicts, settlers and marines to Van Diemen's Land (Tasmania). In 1815, 1817 & 1823 the 'Ocean' transported convicts to New South Wales.

He was tried at Lancaster Quarter Sessions, sentenced to 7years & arrived in NSW as a convict on 30 1 1816 after a voyage of 5months on OCEAN. He was an emancipist living at Wilberforce when he married Maria (Kentwell her first marriage) of Wilberforce on 5 5 1823 at St Matthews CofE Windsor.He is recorded in 1828 as Free by Servitude landholder with his family & servant John (Greenwood)-who later married his wife-on 5acres at Baulkham Hills. He was recorded as farmer at Baulkham Hills in 1829. He died on 27 6 1832 age37 & was buried at St Johns CofE Parramatta. [Some details taken from this Website] Maria (Kentwell) was born in 1806. She was living at Wilberforce when she married firstly John (Wood) emancipist of Wilberforce on 5 5 1823 at St Matthews CofE Windsor. She is recorded in 1828 with her family at Baulkham Hills. She married secondly John (Greenwood) on 17 3 1834 at St Johns CofE Parramatta & produced 6more children. She died on 1 9 1881 age about75 mother of 11children. In the colony, John married Maria Kentwell, May 5 1823 at St Matthews, Windsor. Maria was the daughter of William Kentwell (Convict, Admiral Barrington, 1791) and Elizabeth Morris (Convict, Mary Ann, 1791). John and Maria had 5 children from 1824 until 1833. The last child being born just after John died! Maria then married John Greenwood (Convict, Prince Regent, 1826). Greenwood had been an assigned servant to John Wood.
