Suffolk Assizes. … James Woodgate, for stealing a grey mare pony, the property of John Newby, of Wenhaston ; and Geo. Woodgate, Stephen Baldry, Thos. Barnaby Benjamin Hazelop, and Israel Woodgate, for breaking into the dwellinghouse of Stephen Capon, of Hinton, and stealing six sacks of white clover seed, with the sacks; were all capitally convicted, and sentence of death recorded. Cambridge Chronicle, 13 Aug 1824.
James Woodgate and his brother Israel, and cousin George Woodgate were all indicted and sentenced to death. All arrived on the Norfolk. James and Israel were the sons of Robert Woodgate and Elizabeth Moore. (George the son of Richard Woodgate and Rachel Wright). 1829: TOL Bathurst 13/8/1839: COF 1839: Married Margaret Godfrey at Abercrombie/Bathurst. 1847: James died at the age of 54 at Bathurst. 26/3/1847: James Woodgate, Farmer - died intestate and the intestate's effects to be granted to Margaret Woodgate being the widow and next of kin. (Supreme Court).
