The unfortunate deceased rented a farm across the Swamp, and was seen on Saturday night, proceeding homewards from town, under the influence of liquor. He did not reach home that night, and his absence, created the alarm of his neighbours, who at day light on Sunday morning went in search. After a considerable time they found the body lying upon the mud close to the bank of the river. The unfortunate man had a basket upon his arm, which in addition to the posi tion of the body, left no doubt that he must have accidentally fallen in. — Launceston Advertiser. Launceston Courier 20/03/1843.
