Catherine and her family were involved in several tragedies. The worst happened in 1806. There convict servant, Richard Morgan rose early and felled a tree. The family were just stirring from their beds when the huge tree crashed down through the roof of the house. It struck and killed two of the young children, Catherine (10) and James (6), it also severally injured their mother. However, Catherine did recover. The convict servant, Morgan, was awarded 500 lashes for his 'crime'.

Catherine appears to have had a relationship with James Dunne (Convict, Royal Admiral 1792). This commenced around 1793 but it would appear they never married. There are 5 children to this relationship.
