Sugar Cane, was a 403 burthen ton merchantman and convict ship that was dispatched in 1793 from Ireland to Australia. She was launched in 1786 upon the Thames River. Under the command of Thomas Musgrave, she sailed from Cork, Ireland, on 12 April 1793, with 110 male and 50 female convicts. During the voyage a mutiny by the convicts was put down and a convict executed. She arrived at Port Jackson, New South Wales on the 17 September 1793. The Sugar Cane left Port Jackson for Bengal in late 1793.

Family connections for Patrick (Caffery) are: CAFFERY Patrick (Caffery aka Hugh (Caffray)) was born about 1771 in Ireland. He was tried for stealing a cloak of Anne (Reaf) at Dublin on 18 12 1792, sentenced to 7years & arrived in NSW as a convict on 17 9 1793 after a voyage of 5months on SUGAR CANE. He was Free by Servitude by 1810. She had a third relationship with Patrick (Caffrey). He died in 1840 age69. Noted a Patrick (Caffree emancipist SUGAR CANE 1793) is recorded as dying on 13 5 1828 age50 & buried at St Lukes CofE Liverpool] [Some details taken from this Website] Ann (Gorman) was born about 1778. She had a first (1of3) relationship with William (Quinn). She was tried for stealing breeches & money of Thomas (Ford) at Trolsel Dublin city Ireland in April 1793, sentenced to 7years & arrived in NSW as a convict on 11 2 1796 after a voyage of 6months on MARQUIS CORNWALLIS. She was Free by Servitude by 1802 & had a second (2of3) relationship with Joseph (Flood) & produced 6children. She is recorded in 1805/6 with her family. She is recorded in 1811 muster. She died on 20 8 1814 age36 mother of 7known children & was buried at St Phillips CofE Sydney.
