John Carrott was 25 years old when convicted of the manslaughter of his wife, Eliza. Eliza Clark was born in 1835 in Spilsby, Lincolnshire. Eliza had an illegitimate son, Charles born in 1854 – John and Eliza then married on 20/8/1854. They then had another son, John, born 1856. After Eliza died, son Charles was looked after by his grandmother, Ann Clark and John was looked after by his uncle, Robert Clark, sadly John died in 1865 at Spilsby, Linc. On arrival John Snr., was 27 years old, 5’5 ¼” tall, light brown hair, light blue eyes, swarthy complexion, stout, scars on forefingers of right and left hands. 1868: John married Mary Beahan at Albany, WA – They had 7 children. Mary died in 1882. John had worked at Balgarup and in 1870 was a farmer at Kojonup. 10/1/1901 The West Australian, Perth: FREMANTLE POLICE COURT. WEDNESDAY, JANUARY 9. Before Mr. R.. Fairbairn, R.M. Alleged Insanity - An elderly man named John Carrotts was charged with being of unsound mind. He was referred to a doctor for examination. 15/1/1901 The Daily News, Perth: A LUNATIC John Carrotts was charged at the Fremantle Police Court this morning, before Mr. R. Fairbuirn, R.M., with lunacy. He was sent to the Fremantle Lunatic Asylum. The magistrate said that the doctor had reported that Carrots was not very bad, and would be able to come out of the asylum before long. 26/3/1918 The West Australian, Perth: CARROTTS.-The friends of the late Mr. John Carrotts,late of Claremont. W.A., are respectfully informed that his remains will be interred in the Anglican portion of the Karrakatta Cemetery at 11.15 o'clock THIS (Tuesday) MORNING.
