Benjamin COHEN was convicted at the CCC, London on 26 Oct 1835 for receiving stolen property - goods for a druggist/chemist. Cohen denied the offence & 19 witnesses gave him a good character. 14 yr transportation sentence. Sent to Van Diemen's Land (Tasmania) per the 'Lord Lynoch' 1836. Aged 39yrs; 5' 4". Married - wife Sarah, at their shop in Hackney Rd. London; 4 children. Native Place - London. Assignments of work service in the Colony. Accidentally drowned, at Launceston, Tasmania, 8 May 1841. Inquest into death 10 May 1841. ref. 195/1/7 no. 536.
