Convict Notes

David Holloway was 20 years old when convicted. 1837: Assigned to James King, Raymond Terrace. 1837: Assigned to the gaol, Sydney. 1839: TOL 27/11/1841: Admitted to Newcactle gaol. Sentence in irons expired, to be returned to the government service. Sent to Hyde Park Barracks. 25/4/1849: Maitland Mercury: NEWCASTLE. Inquest.-An inquest was held on Saturday, April 21st, at the Miners' Arms, on view of the body of David Holloway, a potter in the employ of Mr. Samuel Welham, of Burwood. It appeared that deceased, while in a state of intoxication on Tuesday last, plunged into the water off the wharf, having been dared thereto by certain bystanders, and that he was saved by the exertions of the mate and other parties from the Rose steamer, which was then at the wharf. Subsequently he was taken ill, at the above house, of inflammation of the lungs, and died on Saturday morning last. A verdict of death from natural causes was returned.
