William Downes, a fruiterer, of St. Margaret's, Ipswich, was indicted with stealing 20 coombs of malt and a pocket of hops, the property of Mr. Charles Calver, a maltster of Tuddenham, Suffolk. The newspaper report on William's trial heard at the Midsummer Ipswich Quarter Sessions can be found in the Suffolk Chronicle – Saturday, 9th July 1831 Mark Pilch was indicted with receiving the coombs of malt and pocket of hops and was transported aboard the 'William Glen Anderson' to Van Diemen's Land in 1831 for 7 years.
