Eliza SADLER was convicted at Cambridge, Isle of Ely, England on 1 Jan 1845 for stealing ribbons and a tablecloth. Eliza stated under oath that she was innocent of the offence. 7 yr transportation sentence. Sent to Van Diemen's Land (Tasmania) per the ship "Lloyds" arriving 7 Nov 1845. Ship surgeon's report: "quiet & well behaved". Single woman; aged 25 yrs; a lying-in nurse; sallow complexion; brown hair; grey eyes; can read; Protestant religion. Native place of birth: Wisbech, Cambridgeshire. Brother: Richard (ref. Convict record) Colony of VDL: 6 mth Probation Period "Anson" Station Hulk on River Derwent, Hobart. Assigned out to service work 31 March 1846: Larceny, under 5 pounds. 6 mths hard labour, at the Female Factory, Hobart. 30 Oct 1849: Ticket of Leave granted. Marriage: There is a marriage for an Eliza SADDLER to Richard CRUMP on 27 Jan 1846 at Hobart. (Although not recorded on Convict Record, this is most probably the correct one.)
